For some
200 years the pub has been serving the villagers and visitors
in a warm and hospitable manner. The open fire roaring up the
chimney, the locals holding forth in friendly banter, creating
an atmosphere which, it has been commented by visitors, "is
better than Ambridge".
It boasts of being the smallest pub in Nottinghamshire and until
the 1970's, when a small extension was added, claimed to be the
smallest in the country.
Percy Whitworth was
for many years the landlord and the claim was at that time, the
smallest pub with largest Landlord. He was of immensely rotund
proportions, climbing the ladder to his bedroom above the bar was
no mean feat. History
