As is with our summers of late, there was rain in the air and half an hour before opening, time the heavens opened...but by 2:30pm a smattering of the moist stuff was all but noticable and the sun shone. Councillor Bruce Laughton opened the event with enthusiasm. The weather had not inspired as many people to attend but those who did were not disappointed. We had visitors from Arazona and South Korea, Maplebeck has international fame. The Micklborough Morris Men as always were full of cheer and did us proud with an accordian, bells, sticks and white handkerchiefs wafted high.
The takings were down but spirits were not and as always, we are grateful to David And Eve for the kind loan of their garden for this day of fun laughter, and to all of those who stoicly manned the stalls and collected the cakes and tombola prizes which all made it a lovely English country Garden Fete.

REPORT
What a glorious day, sunshine all the way. The roses in the garden were stunning and it was truly a traditional English Garden Fete. We had so many new faces enjoying the day and an unusually large number of children which was a bonus. The Morris men were depleted in number because of illness but they made up for that with their usual ebullient humour and enthusiasm, once again we thank them for coming and help make this annual charity event so successful.

Annual Garden Fete 25th June 2011

A slightly muggy day with clouds threatening but never a drop of rain, once again we were lucky with the weather.

This year we have raised a record £875.35p this is divided equally between St Radegunds Church and the Turton Memorial Hall. Well done to all those who work so hard to make the event so successful each year and special thanks to the kindness of two village members who lent their beautiful garden for the day. Many thanks to the musicians and the Mickleborough Morris Men, without whom this would not be a complete and most enjoyable day.
