New Village Hall Construction in Maplebeck

The Turton Memorial Hall Management Committee are pleased to confirm that we plan to start on site in early May.

You will appreciate that the site is very compact and it is inevitable that for several months there is the likelihood of some disruption to the normal flow of traffic along Main Street, for which we would like to apologise in advance. In order to try and minimise this, The Landlord of the Beehive Public House has kindly agreed to us using the Pub car-park for all contractors' vehicles. This should greatly reduce the need for on-road parking.

Mr Harvey has also kindly agreed to us using an area adjacent to the workshops for secure storage of materials and construction plant. At times this will involve significant movements along the road.

Although this is a community project it is a construction site and is therefore potentially dangerous. We will welcome interest in the progress; but would ask that people do not walk onto the site. We will be happy to answer questions offsite. Out of working times the site will be properly secured.

There will be no radios, in order to reduce the noise impact, but power tools and machinery cannot be avoided. There will be a reduced level of work on Saturdays and Sundays (to allow some volunteer input).

You might have noticed that we have carefully netted the boundary hawthorn hedge. This has prevented any birds from nesting and has avoided any later disturbance. It will be necessary to replace this hawthorn hedge with a hazel one, which will be much more friendly towards the new hall foundations.

With your donations and with support from The Big Lottery, The Scottish Power Green Energy Trust and WREN, we have now secured sufficient funds for the building, although sponsorship is always welcome, and we do need more funds for some of the hall equipment. So any ideas for extra funding would be gratefully received.

It is over four years since the project was started in earnest and we are looking forward to next year when we can invite you all to the grand opening of a welcoming hall, fit for purpose for the next one hundred years.

And again....sorry for any disruption in the meanwhile!

If you would like any further information please contact us or if you have ideas for extra funding
